8.25 WS 12.5, Large head and bill, Underwing coverts pale or lemon
colored,
Black head, orange nape, throat on breeding male
Behavior
Forages
in deciduous forests, thickets, pine-oak and pinyon-juniper
woodlands
for pine seeds, wild berries, insects and spiders.
Will come to feeders
for sunflower and other seeds and fruit. Lays 2-5 brown spotted,
blue-white
or green-white eggs in nest of twigs, roots,
flower heads lined with
stems
and rootlets in the fork of a tree 4-25 feet above the ground. Male and
