These settings were used in an effort to eliminate reflection off the wing case. Some adjustments were also made in Photoshop to lighten the subject. 2. Larva #3 molting to pupa - March 4, 2007 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Pupa was extracted on February 20, 2006 , at an elevation of 4000 feet, Warner Valley, 6.2 miles South Southeast of Shinob Kiab, Washington County, Utah by Todd Stout. 1. Parasitic activity or over heating of the pupa likely killed this male photographed March 1, 2006. The larvae initiallly feed on leaves and then, when they get older, they burrow into the roots of the plant; drilling out a tunnel right in the root of the plant. (This of course kills the plant). The larvae of Megathymus yuccae coloradensis make a conspicuous nest in the middle of the plant that lets you know a larva was there.
