Larvae hibernated as third instar
Third instars were removed from hibernation on 29 March 2012 and set on potted penstemon plants
Euphydryas should be kept in only 10-11 hours light per day and a cool environment.  Spray ~3 times daily until they start feeding. 
Then put in new dry understory or paper towels.
Some molted to fourth instar on  7 April 2012 and began feeding

May 1, 2012 - Hanging in "J"  during prepupa stage
May 2, 2012 - Formed pupa

May 12, 2012 - Adult emerged

LIFE HISTORY:
Ovum:  about 8 days
Larva:  20 days the first year  -  30 days the second year.  Many did not break diapause
Pupa:  about 10 days
Adult:  unknown
Hibernation:  Overwinter as  larvae
