Characteristics
  • 1 to 1 1/2 inches long. 
  • Male red with pale face, clear wings, one rust colored vein, velvety dots  at  the wing to body joint
  •  rounded  black marks on the lower abdomen and 2 pale top and side thoracic stripes.
  •  No other meadowhawk has the top stripes.
  • The immature male is golden and the female is reddish brown or a tawny color. 
  • They fly from April to November and prefer ponds and lakes
