Characteristics
- 1
to 1 1/2 inches long.
- Male red with pale face, clear
wings, one
rust colored vein, velvety dots at the wing to body joint
- rounded black
marks on the lower abdomen and 2 pale top and side
thoracic stripes.
- No other meadowhawk has
the top stripes.
- The
immature male is golden and the female is reddish brown or a tawny
color.
- They fly from April to
November and prefer ponds and lakes
