SET ONE
On 31 May 2015 some first and second instar gloveri were received from Tim Dalsing who received them from Wayne Whaley.  Ova were obtained from an adult female who was located in Southern Arizona, USA.
#1 molted to 2nd Instar at 2 P.M. 1 June 2015.  Photo on 3 June measured 12 mm long
4 days as third instar - 22 mm on third day 3rd instar
6 days as fourth instar - 42 mm on fourth day of fourth instar
11 days as fifth instar - 84 mm on tenth day of fifth instar
 Purged excess fluid on 26 June 2015 and began spinning cocoon

HOST:  Salix exigua

SET TWO - These are from sister/brother mating pair from SET ONE reared by Tim Dalsing
All instars are much smaller than they were in SET ONE

Other
In the west the caterpillar hosts are the western choke cherry (Prunus demissa), bitter cherry (P. emarginata), bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata), wild roses (Rosa), willows (Salix), buffalo berry (Shepherdia argentea), Russian olive (Eleagnus angustifolius), and buckbrush (Ceanothus).  Identification marks: Wings are dark brown to red-brown. The gray area outside the white postmedian band does not contain any red. Crescent spots on the forewings and hindwings are white, although occasionally the spots on the forewing may be reduced or absent.
